Free The Hops’ Huntsville Fundraiser

Draft Beer TableWell, I think everyone had a blast. The Huntsville Chapter of Free The Hops put on a great event to support the group's effort to change the Alabama beer laws to allow beers with alcohol above 6% and in containers greater than 16 oz.

Beer Tasting Table at Free the Hops

We received help from so many people to make this event happen. Olde Towne, Terrapin, Brooklyn Brewing, and Supreme Beverage helped by provide draft beer.

Many of our members brought beer to provide everyone a taste of what you could drink in Alabama if we get the laws changed.

The Sideshow at Free The HopsThe musical talents of The Sideshow was on hand to provide great music for the event. I think everyone enjoyed them and it has very nice of them to donate their services.

I have heard estimates that around 500 people joined our party/fundraiser.

Heading to Wonderful Colorado Springs

My work will be taking me back to Colorado Springs, soon. I just hope the weather is good. I heard they are recoving from 2 feet of snow!

I will have to take my camera to capture some snow pictures while I am out hiking.

I hope to stop by the Bristol Brewing for a cold beer and Pikes Perk for coffee, but not on the same day.

Back from Disney World's International Food and Wine Festival

Karen and I just got back from a wonderful vacation to Disney World. It was our first vacation as Disney Vacation Club (DVC) members. Being a DVC member made the vacation extra fun.

We stayed at Disney's Saratoga Springs, which is our home resort. We had a beautiful view of Disney Downtown.

The only bummer is Karen got a blister on both pinky toes.

I will be posting pictures soon at www.brianallen.com

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

Brian and Karen Allen as the King and Queen of Heart at Walt Disney World’s Mickey’s Not-So-Scary HalloweenKaren and I went to one of the Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween nights as the King and Queen of Hearts.  We had a blast interacting with the characters from Alice in Wonderland especially the Queen of Hearts.

We collected three bags of candy between us.  As Karen said, “I’ll start dieting when I get home.”

Knoxville Brewers’ Jam

Karen and I had feared that the weather was going to be freezing, but it turned out great.  We hadn’t been in the gate for minute before running into Kris Lutz of Community Shares, which puts on the festival.  Community Shares is an outreach organization the east Tennessee area.

We talked to guys from Foothill Brewing of Winston-Salem to congratulate them on their Gold Medal at the recent Great American Beer Festival competition.

Community Shares had arranged for accommodations at the Knoxville Hilton, which were super.  We had view of a Tennessee river, access to the concierge room, walking distance to Market Square, and walking distance to the festival.

The music was much better this year, but the band started later and later throughout the day.  This caused the last band, “The Everybodyfields”, start around 7:30 PM when the beer tents where told to stop serving.

Speaking of beer tents, we like the new layout of the the food and beer tents.  The beer ran out early at many tents just like last year.

Karen and I talked with Matthew Chiaro of the Knoxville News Sentinel.  We ended up in his article about the beer festival.  You read it here.
