Laurel Falls Trail and Beyond

We had a great hike to Laurel Falls and beyond. The fall was flowing with minimal water given the season. We made good progress with Katie Beth staying in her carrier until we reached the falls.

The high light of the hike was the virgin forest beyond the falls. We found a hollow log and Katie Beth climbed inside and laid down. We found a tree with base open to the other side so Katie Beth could climb through the middle of the tree.

We missed seeing the bear that had been hanging around the trail, but a lot of other people had seen it. A gentleman showed us his picture of walk up on a black bear on the same trail during the previous week. His first photo has shaky from being surprised.

On the Abrams Fall Trail

Abrams Fall TrailWe have checked out the creek anytime we got close, which is running really well today for the season. Katie Beth loved walking into the creek on the rocks. But, she still has little to no appreciation for the moss on the wet rocks. We got some good shots with the camera I hope.

Hopefully, we will make it to the falls, but we are moving slowly with frequent snacks and diversions. Katie Beth could be one of the dog in the movie UP. Squirrel!

Hay Ride at Huntsville Botanical Garden

Hay Ride at Huntsville Botanical GardenWe are seeing all sort of things here today. We have seen butterflies everywhere throughout the garden.

We watered Katie Beth’s tree.

We went into the butterfly house, which didn’t have as many butterflies as the area outside the house.

We are now walking through the garden looking at all the scare crows on trails.

We stayed so long that we got locked in the garden. No one was left in the office, the doors were locked, and the parking lot was empty.

Rainbow Mountain Trail Hike

Rainbow Mountain Trail HikeWe have climbed through and over rocks everywhere. We are hiking the Rainbow Mountain Loop trail. The weather is just super.

The Katie Beth got to pee outside on the trail. She thinks that is a woot!

We hiked about a mile and half. Katie Beth was in the carry most of the time. But, she climb the rocks and jump across rocks.

I think Karen was getting worked a little hard at some points. She did wonderful and looked great, too.

Rainbow Mountain Trails

Rainbow Mountain TrailsWe are out hiking this morning. We have never hiked this area, but we will be doing it more in the future.

The temperature is in the upper 80’s and the humidity is high. Katie Beth is sweating a lot.Rainbow Mountain Trail Playground

Hiking was cut short, because Katie Beth found a playground on the trails.

The trails have a big variety of areas including cliffs, open areas, and forests.

Catching Fish in Indian Creek

Catching Fish in Indian CreekKatie Beth is having a great time looking at the fish in Indian Creek. She brought her fish net, which is actually an aquarium fish net.

I helped little to avoid her actually walking into the creek in her attempt to catch the fish.

I guess that I can now start looking for toddler waders.

Heading Back from Three Caves

Heading Back from Three CavesKatie Beth was a trooper. She hiked a few miles to the caves just to learn they were closed. Bummer!

She hiked back a ⅓ of the way before she was too tired. She slept for a mile on my back, which made for some serious exercise for me.
